–It all started with a tweet…
This week, we officially launched SURGE in Bengaluru. We’re excited.
Our team travelled to the Garden City of India to meet the local startup community, government officials and talk to the press about SURGE.
It’s all kicking off.
Our CEO Paddy Cosgrave explained why we’re bringing the Web Summit experience to India for the first time:
“Web Summit is now the biggest and most influential startup gathering in the world. In recent years, we’ve seen a significant rise in the number of Indian startups attending our global conferences.
“India is increasingly producing globally competitive startups that have disrupted markets and the way we live. Bengaluru is a significant part of the global startup eco-system and we think it is the ideal venue for SURGE 2016,” he said.
We’ve already got a great speakers lineup: Nicolas Brusson (Co-Founder & COO, BlaBlaCar), Sachin Bansal (Co-Founder & CEO, Flipkart) and Ambarish Mitra (Founder & CEO, Blippar).
And we’ve got some top investors on the way – Dave McClure (Founding Partner, 500 Startups), Subrata Mitra (Partner, Accel Partners), Saul Klein (Founder, Seedcamp) and Bharati Jacob (Managing Partner, Seedfund) are all confirmed.
It was great to hear from Bengaluru’s tech community:
“In the second-fastest growing startup ecosystem, the conference has made an opportune arrival.
“What Indian startups lack is access to market and a global footprint. The way that the conference has been set up, it addresses these challenges,” said Vikram Ahuja founder of Byond Travel.
Here he is meeting our team:
It’s been a great week for us in Bengaluru and we couldn’t be more excited about SURGE opening on February 23.
How could we not be with a welcome like this? The SURGE cake in all its glory…
